India-China talks: After the India-China strategic talks held in New Delhi, China has said that in the changing global situation, both countries should resolve their differences with a long-term and strategic perspective. Beijing stressed that India and China should move forward not as competitors, but as cooperative partners.
This statement came at a time when detailed discussions were held between India’s Foreign Secretary Vikram Misri and China’s Vice Foreign Minister Ma Zhaoxu. Ma Zhaoxu has arrived in India to take part in the BRICS Sherpa meeting. According to China’s Foreign Ministry, international and regional situations, the policies of both countries, shared global issues, and bilateral relations were openly discussed in the talks.
Beijing said that in the current international circumstances, both countries need to increase mutual coordination. It also emphasized seriously implementing the important understandings reached between President Xi Jinping and Prime Minister Narendra Modi. China reiterated that India and China are opportunities for each other, not threats.
The Chinese statement said that strengthening mutual trust, opening new paths of cooperation, and handling differences in a balanced manner is the need of the time. Both sides agreed to support each other during the BRICS presidency in 2026 and 2027. Multilateralism, the role of the United Nations, unity of the Global South, and strengthening a multipolar world order were also discussed.
On the other hand, India’s Ministry of External Affairs said that the main objective of the talks was to stabilize and move forward bilateral relations. Peace and stability in the border areas were described as necessary for improvement in relations. Ministry spokesperson Randhir Jaiswal said that both countries reviewed the positive progress seen in recent months and discussed increasing people-to-people contacts.

Although sensitive issues were not disclosed, it is believed that these may include subjects such as China’s export controls on rare minerals. India welcomed the resumption of the Kailash Mansarovar Yatra and expressed hope to further expand its scope. Both countries also agreed to simplify the visa process and increase mutual exchanges.
