Key Points
  • $15 billion AI investment over five years
  • Largest AI hub planned in Vizag
  • Undersea cable to improve global connectivity
  • 10 million people to receive AI training

Google India AI investment: From the stage of the India AI Impact Summit 2026, Google announced an investment of $15 billion for India, which is about ₹1.36 lakh crore. The company’s plan is that over the next five years this amount will be spent on strengthening AI-related infrastructure in the country, improving internet connectivity, working together with the government, and giving training in new technology to youth.

At the summit, Google CEO Sundar Pichai said that artificial intelligence can bring a big change in the life of every Indian. He said that Google wants to see India included among the world’s major AI centers and this investment is being made in that direction. Senior government officials, scientists, and representatives of tech companies from around the world were also present at this program.

A Big AI Hub Will Be Built in Vizag

Google is building its largest AI hub in Visakhapatnam (Vizag). According to the company, this will be its biggest project outside the United States. Apart from this, new cloud regions will be prepared in Mumbai, Delhi and Chennai so that advanced AI models can get better support within India itself.

The company says that these projects can create more than 20,000 new jobs, especially in the fields of AI engineering, data science and cloud technology. The good thing is that all data centers will run on 100% renewable energy.

Internet Will Become Faster Through America-India Connect

Among the announcements, the “America-India Connect” initiative received the most discussion. Through this, a new fiber-optic cable line laid under the sea will be prepared, which will start from America and reach India, and then connect countries like Japan, Australia, Singapore and South Africa. In simple words, this will be a digital route.

America-India Connect Network

Along with this, an international subsea gateway will also be built in Visakhapatnam (Vizag). The company claims that after this network becomes operational, data transfer speed can increase by about 400% and internet latency will be reduced by half. That means while using websites, cloud services or AI tools, less waiting will be required. This will directly benefit startups, researchers and big businesses.

Special Fund for Government and Science

Google.org has started two big challenges, for which a total fund of $60 million has been kept. One challenge will promote the use of AI in public services—such as healthcare, education and agriculture. The second will focus on speeding up scientific research.

Google DeepMind, together with the Principal Scientific Advisor of the Government of India, has also announced the start of the “Google Center for Climate Technology.” In this center, which will open in Bengaluru, 500 scientists will get access to tools like Gemini 2.0. Work will be done here on crop forecasting, forest fire warnings and carbon tracking.

Target to Give AI Skills to 10 Million Indians

AI Skills and Jobs Plan

Google said that it is starting an “AI Professional Certificate” in India, in which basic training in prompt engineering and machine learning will be given. The target is to prepare 10 million people by 2026.

Under partnership with Karmayogi Bharat, AI training will also be given to government employees. Through the iGOT platform, more than 20 million employees from over 800 districts will receive training in more than 18 Indian languages.

Along with this, a $100 million AI fund has also been announced, from which 50 startups will get support.

What Next?

Pichai said that AI can bring a big change in sectors like health, education and farming. To reduce the language barrier, real-time translation tools in more than 70 languages are also being introduced, including 10 Indian languages.
