Japan earthquake: Powerful earthquake strikes southern coast of Japan, tsunami warning issued

A powerful earthquake struck the southern coast of Japan on Thursday, prompting a tsunami warning. According to the Japan Meteorological Agency, a 7.1 magnitude earthquake struck southern Kyushu at noon. Its epicentre was at a depth of 30 kilometres on the eastern coast of Kyushu.

Tsunami warning: As a result of the earthquake, a tsunami warning has been issued for the eastern and southern coasts of Kyushu as well as the southern coast of Shikoku. According to estimates, waves up to 1 meter (3.3 feet) can rise in these areas. The Meteorological Agency has issued this warning, especially for Miyazaki and Kochi provinces. Local residents have been advised to remain vigilant and move to safe places.
