India and Canada have agreed to develop a joint action plan to strengthen cooperation on national security, law enforcement, and cyber security following high-level talks in Ottawa.

India Canada security cooperation: India and Canada have agreed to prepare a joint action plan to strengthen cooperation in the areas of national security, law enforcement, and cyber security. The objective is to advance practical cooperation in line with the priorities of both countries.

This agreement was reached during a meeting in Ottawa between India’s National Security Adviser Ajit Doval and his Canadian counterpart Nathalie Drouin. According to the Ministry of External Affairs, both sides reviewed progress on initiatives related to the safety of their respective citizens and discussed next steps.

The ministry said that both countries will appoint liaison officers related to security and law enforcement. At the same time, the concerned agencies will further strengthen existing working relationships. This step will help facilitate bilateral dialogue and enable timely exchange of information on issues linked to shared concerns. These include illicit drug trafficking—particularly fentanyl precursors—and international organized criminal networks.

In addition, both sides agreed to establish formal cooperation to share information on cyber security policy and cyber-related issues. It was also decided to continue discussions on matters related to fraud and immigration enforcement, in accordance with domestic laws and international obligations.

Earlier, National Security Adviser Doval also met Canada’s Minister of Public Safety, Gary Anandasangaree. The talks focused on advancing security cooperation between the two countries.
