India Internet Users: Think for a moment — out of every seven people in the world, one person is now using the internet in India. This is not an estimate, this is the reality of the latest figures from TRAI.

The Telecom Regulatory Authority of India (TRAI) released the report for the December 2025 quarter on Tuesday, and the numbers that came out in it are quite big. In September 2025, the number of internet users in the country was 101.78 crore, and by December 2025 this figure crossed 102.86 crore. More than one crore new users in just three months! India’s digital engine is not just running — it is running at full speed.

Mobile is the real king

Now the question is, how are these 102 crore people accessing the internet? The answer is as simple as the smartphone kept in your pocket. Out of the total users, 98.32 crore people rely on mobile internet. That means out of every 10 users, around 9 are online through mobile.

If we talk about users connected through wired broadband, that is fiber cable or DSL connection installed at home, their number is 4.53 crore. This number may look small compared to mobile, but its growth rate can surprise anyone. Because the total number of high-speed broadband users has now crossed the 100 crore mark, and this is the biggest sign of the maturity of India’s digital infrastructure.

Network reaching every corner

If we talk about telephone connections, the picture here is also very encouraging. The total number of telephone subscribers has jumped from 122.89 crore to 130.61 crore. A growth of 6.28% in just one quarter is not an ordinary increase.

Tele-density, that is the percentage of phone connections compared to the country’s population, has increased from 86.65% to 91.74%. In simple words, now out of every 100 people in India, around 92 have some kind of phone connection. The reach of wireless services is also continuously increasing. Combining mobile connections and fixed wireless, the number of wireless users in the country has now reached 125.87 crore.

Companies’ coffers also filled

The digital growth of India Internet Users is not limited only to the user base — it is directly visible in the balance sheets of telecom companies as well. In this quarter, the total revenue of the sector stood at ₹1,02,475 crore. And ARPU, that is the average monthly revenue per user, has increased from ₹190.99 to ₹194.57.

Broadcasting is not behind either

Along with the digital world, the traditional ecosystem of television is also strengthening its roots. The Ministry of Information and Broadcasting has so far approved 920 private satellite TV channels. Out of these total channels, 335 are pay-TV channels, while the rest are free-to-air. The meaning is clear — whether the viewer wants to take a subscription or watch free options, there are enough choices available for every section.

102 crore internet users, more than 130 crore phone connections, and over 100 crore broadband users, these are not just numbers. This is a glimpse of that digital India where a farmer checks mandi prices online, a student prepares for IIT on YouTube, and a shopkeeper accepts payment through UPI. India’s digital journey is not over yet, the real game has just begun.
