Mercedes-Benz Electric GLC SUV with sleek design, long range, and advanced tech unveiled at IAA Mobility 2025.

Mercedes-Benz has revealed the first look of its new electric GLC SUV, with its global debut scheduled for early September at the International Motor Show, IAA Mobility 2025, in Germany. This new model marks a significant step in the brand’s electric mobility journey, especially after the discontinuation of the EQC model. Now, Mercedes-Benz is bringing a new lease of life to the GLC with an all-electric version, equipped with the latest EQ technology to deliver a high-tech, luxury, and performance-oriented electric vehicle.

Sensual Purity Design of the New Electric GLC

The new electric GLC fully embraces the brand’s latest design philosophy, ‘Sensual Purity,’ which Mercedes-Benz describes as a true work of art. The SUV’s front fascia features a striking new grille design, framed in chrome with integrated contour lighting and a mesh structure that gives it a smoked-glass effect. The grille houses a total of 942 backlit pixels, available in an illuminated version with animation capability, giving the vehicle a unique and futuristic appearance.

The exterior design is not only visually appealing but also balances class and style through the Sensual Purity concept. This design language further strengthens Mercedes’ brand identity, appealing to customers looking for a premium, modern, and intelligent electric car.

Interior and Technology

The new electric GLC takes in-car technology to a whole new level. It debuts Mercedes-Benz’s advanced MB.OS platform, an innovative software architecture that integrates infotainment, driving functions, advanced driver assistance systems (ADAS), and charging into one seamless interface. This allows the vehicle to receive faster and more frequent updates, improving the overall user experience.

Inside, the electric GLC features the latest variant of the MBUX Hyperscreen, delivering an immersive digital experience for both driver and passenger. With AI-powered personalised controls, the system enhances both driving and connectivity. The cabin also boasts luxury finishes, an advanced sound system, and top-tier comfort features, ensuring no compromise on premium appeal.

Performance and Battery

In terms of performance, the new electric GLC offers an impressive package. It is powered by a large 94.5 kWh battery paired with dual electric motors (front and rear), providing all-wheel drive (4MATIC) capabilities. When the front motor is not required, it can decouple to save energy and improve efficiency.

Mercedes-Benz claims a WLTP-tested range of around 650 kilometres (404 miles), while the US EPA estimate is about 515 kilometres (320 miles), making it suitable for both urban and highway driving in markets like India and Europe.

The top variant produces nearly 500 horsepower, delivering powerful acceleration. The rear motor is equipped with a two-speed gearbox for improved efficiency and driving dynamics, while rear-wheel steering makes manoeuvring this large SUV easy even in city traffic.

Fast and Convenient Charging

The new electric GLC supports up to 320 kW DC fast charging, enabling it to gain around 260 kilometres (162 miles) of range in just about 10 minutes — a major advantage in the EV segment. For the US market, it will also be available with Tesla’s NACS charging port, further expanding charging convenience.

Space, Comfort, and Additional Features

The wheelbase of the electric GLC is about 80 mm longer than its petrol counterpart, creating more cabin space. The boot capacity is an ample 570 litres, with an additional 128-litre front trunk (frunk) for extra storage.

The SUV also comes with Airmatic air suspension to smooth out road imperfections and enhance ride comfort. Despite its longer wheelbase, rear-wheel steering ensures agile handling in tight city streets. True to Mercedes-Benz tradition, the SUV is loaded with luxury and safety features for a secure and comfortable journey.

Expected Price and Launch in India

In India, the new electric GLC is expected to be priced between ₹60 lakh and ₹70 lakh, positioning it strongly in the premium electric SUV segment. While an official India launch date has not yet been announced, the rising demand for electric cars suggests it could arrive in the Indian market sooner rather than later.

Conclusion

The new Mercedes-Benz electric GLC is more than just a vehicle — it is a statement of the future of luxury electric mobility. With its futuristic design, advanced technology, long driving range, ultra-fast charging, and assured performance, it strengthens Mercedes-Benz’s push towards an electrified future. Its grand unveiling at IAA Mobility 2025 will undoubtedly be a major highlight for electric car enthusiasts and luxury SUV lovers alike.

With this new GLC, Mercedes-Benz sends a clear message that it aims to play a leading role in the evolution of powerful and luxurious electric cars. From India to global markets, this new chapter in electric mobility has raised excitement among automotive enthusiasts worldwide.
