Meta Launches AI Dubbing Feature for Instagram & Facebook Reels

Bringing a significant shift to the digital content landscape, Meta launched a new Meta AI Translation and Dubbing feature for Instagram and Facebook Reels in October 2025. With this feature, users can now watch and listen to Reels created in any language in their preferred language — while retaining the creator’s original voice and tone. Currently, the feature supports English, Spanish, Hindi, and Portuguese, with plans to expand to additional languages soon.
Meta’s Goal: Making Content Global and Inclusive
Meta has long been working to make its platforms more inclusive and accessible to a global audience. Through this new AI Voice Translation and Lip Sync feature, the company aims to eliminate language barriers, enabling content creators to reach more people worldwide with their messages.
According to a Meta spokesperson, “We want every user to enjoy Reels on our platform regardless of the language. This feature will offer a fresh experience for both creators and viewers on social media.”
Key Features of the AI System: Authentic Voice, Accurate Translation
Meta’s new system goes far beyond traditional translation tools. It not only translates the video’s language but also replicates the creator’s tone, rhythm, and style. This makes the dubbed content sound natural rather than robotic.
- Natural Dubbing Experience: The AI voice model generates a voice closely resembling the creator’s original voice, giving viewers the impression that the video is genuinely spoken in their language.
- Lip-Sync Function: The translated audio aligns precisely with the speaker’s lip movements, ensuring perfect synchronization between audio and video.
- Translation Notification Tag: Every translated Reel carries a “Translated with Meta AI” tag, offering transparency to users about the AI-generated audio.
- On/Off Option: Users can choose to turn off translation and watch content in its original language, giving them full control and flexibility.
Who Can Use This Feature?
The new AI feature is currently available to creators with at least 1,000 followers on Instagram or Facebook and public accounts. Meta initially aims to roll it out to active, engaged, and creative users to increase both reach and international viewership of their Reels.
Creators need to select the “Translate your voice with Meta AI” option while uploading Reels. They can then choose their preferred target language — such as Hindi, Spanish, or Portuguese — and enable the lip-sync feature to preview the content.
How the New System Works
Meta’s AI tool identifies the audio during the video upload process and converts speech into text. The translation engine then translates this text into the selected language. Finally, AI voice synthesis analyzes the creator’s tone and accent to generate new audio in the same style.
This technology is based on deep learning, and the real-time lip-sync system perfectly aligns the translated audio with the speaker’s lip movements. Meta emphasizes that the dubbing preserves not just the voice but also emotion, expression, and pitch.
Benefits for Creators

According to Meta, the feature is highly beneficial for creators aiming to expand their audience internationally. An English-speaking creator can now reach Hindi or Portuguese audiences effortlessly.
- Global Reach: Creators’ videos can automatically be viewed and heard in multiple languages, reaching a broader audience.
- Natural Interaction: Viewers experience translated audio in authentic voice quality, maintaining the emotional impact of the content.
- Content Control: Creators retain the freedom to enable or disable translation while posting Reels.
- Brand and Collaboration Opportunities: Multilingual content opens doors for cross-regional campaigns and diverse sponsorship opportunities.
Enhanced Viewer Experience
Meta designed this feature keeping viewer convenience in mind. Users watching Reels can select their preferred language.
If a video is available in another language, the “Translated with Meta AI” tag appears. Users can also select the “Don’t Translate” option from the three-dot menu to watch the video in its original language, ensuring both transparency and user control.
How Meta Differs from YouTube
Meta’s approach differs slightly from platforms like YouTube. While YouTube is developing auto-dubbing features, Meta provides equal control to both creators and viewers.
On YouTube, translations are mostly at the video level, whereas on Meta, viewers can turn translations on or off according to their preference. This flexibility makes the feature more transparent and interactive.
Upcoming Updates and Possibilities
Meta has indicated that this is just the beginning. In the coming months, new updates for Facebook Reels and Instagram Stories are expected, including:
- Multi-Speaker Translation: Automatic dubbing of multiple voices within a single video.
- On-Screen Text and Caption Translation: Translating text and subtitles shown in Reels to the selected language.
- Enhanced Lip-Sync Engine: A more advanced system capable of capturing subtle facial expressions.
Meta’s Major Move for the Digital Era
Meta’s initiative marks a significant step toward making social media content multilingual and human-centric. The company believes that content creation will no longer be limited by language, and this new feature reflects that vision.
With this technology, Meta has not only simplified video translation but also opened new global opportunities for social media creators. Language is no longer a barrier to content; it has become a bridge for connection.
