Apply Now: Pradhan Mantri Fasal Bima Yojana Deadline 31 July 2025

The Haryana government has provided significant relief to farmers for the Kharif 2025 season. The last date to apply under the Pradhan Mantri Fasal Bima Yojana (PMFBY) has now been extended to 31 July 2025. This decision is a crucial step towards ensuring financial security for farmers, allowing them to significantly reduce the risks associated with crop damage during natural calamities. Under this scheme, farmers can insure key crops such as paddy, bajra (pearl millet), maize, and cotton. In cases of adverse weather or pest attacks, they will be eligible for compensation, thus helping them recover from financial losses to a great extent.
Why Crop Insurance is Crucial for Farmers
The Pradhan Mantri Fasal Bima Yojana (PMFBY) is a vital initiative by the government aimed at safeguarding farmers against the uncertainties of agriculture. The primary objective of the scheme is to provide financial aid to farmers in the event of crop loss due to natural disasters such as heavy rainfall, drought, hailstorms, floods, storms, or pest attacks. This framework not only offers support during times of distress but also empowers farmers to make the most of their agricultural investments by becoming more self-reliant.
Apply Before 31 July
For the Kharif 2025 season, the Haryana government has officially extended the application deadline for the Pradhan Mantri Fasal Bima Yojana (PMFBY) to 31 July 2025. Earlier, the last date was set as 31 May, but considering the convenience of farmers, the timeline has been extended. The government has urged farmers not to wait until the last moment to apply, as technical issues or other delays could prevent them from availing the insurance benefits. It has been clearly stated that no applications will be accepted after 31 July, so farmers must ensure their crops are insured within the stipulated time.
Which Crops Are Covered?
Under the PMFBY scheme, farmers in Haryana can avail crop insurance for the following major Kharif crops:
- Paddy
- Bajra (Pearl Millet)
- Maize
- Cotton
These crops are considered vital to the state’s Kharif season, and the government has introduced special coverage to compensate for losses caused by natural disasters.
Insurance Premium Rates (Per Hectare)
The government has fixed specific premium rates that farmers must pay based on the area of their land. The premium details are as follows:
Crop | Premium (₹ per hectare) |
---|---|
Paddy | ₹2,124.98 |
Bajra | ₹1,024.36 |
Maize | ₹1,089.74 |
Cotton | ₹5,435.05 |
This premium is the farmer’s share only; the remaining amount is borne jointly by the central and state governments, keeping the cost manageable for the farmers.
Special Provision for Loanee Farmers
Farmers who have availed agricultural loans from banks (loanee farmers) are automatically covered under the crop insurance scheme. If any such farmer does not wish to be included under the scheme, they must inform their bank in writing by 24 July 2025 and complete the OTP-based ‘opt-out’ process. If this is not done, their crops will be automatically considered insured under the scheme. This provision has been put in place to ensure that no farmer remains exposed to the risk of crop loss without insurance coverage.
Required Documents for Crop Insurance
Non-loanee farmers who wish to benefit from the PMFBY scheme must submit the following essential documents during the application process:
- Land ownership record (Fard)
- Bank account details
- Aadhaar card
- Sowing certificate of the crop
- Registration on the ‘Meri Fasal Mera Byora’ portal
With these documents, farmers can successfully complete their insurance application.
How and Where to Apply?
Farmers can apply for crop insurance under PMFBY through multiple platforms, ensuring they are covered under the scheme without any difficulty. Available modes of application include:
- Official portal: pmfby.gov.in
- Nearest bank branches
- Common Service Centres (CSC)
- Post offices
- Crop Insurance App and AIDE App
The government has simplified both online and offline procedures to make the application process accessible even to those with limited technical knowledge.
How to Claim Compensation After a Disaster?
With this decision, the Haryana government has once again empowered lakhs of farmers across the state to become more secure and self-reliant. Crop insurance reduces the risks associated with farming, allowing farmers to continue their agricultural activities with greater confidence and progress towards financial stability. In times of natural disasters, this scheme acts as a robust safety net for farmers.
The government has appealed to all eligible farmers to apply for the scheme within the deadline so that their crops can receive financial protection in the event of a disaster. This move not only safeguards current farming activities but also contributes to strengthening the farmers’ future economic conditions.
Extending the PMFBY application deadline to 31 July 2025 is a commendable initiative that is poised to enhance stability, safety, and prosperity in Haryana’s agricultural sector.
