The Raja Raghuvanshi murder case in Indore, Madhya Pradesh, has shocked the entire nation. New revelations are emerging daily in this high-profile case, making it increasingly complex. The Meghalaya Police investigation has revealed that Raja’s wife, Sonam Raghuvanshi, orchestrated her husband’s murder. Now, Raja’s brother, Vipin Raghuvanshi, has made a sensational claim that Sonam was involved in an alleged affair, and her mother, Sangeeta Raghuvanshi, was aware of it. This revelation has given a new twist to the investigation.

Murder Plot Hatched Nine Days After Marriage

On May 11, 2025, Raja Raghuvanshi from Indore’s Sahkar Nagar and Sonam from Kushwah Nagar entered into an arranged marriage with the consent of both families. Everyone was excited about the union. However, just nine days later, on May 20, Sonam planned a honeymoon trip to Shillong, Meghalaya. According to the police, this honeymoon was part of a murder conspiracy.

On May 23, Raja and Sonam went missing in Cherrapunji, Shillong. On June 2, Raja’s body was found in a gorge near the Weisawdong waterfall. The postmortem report confirmed that Raja was killed by two blows to the head with a sharp weapon. The Meghalaya Police have arrested Sonam Raghuvanshi, her alleged lover Raj Kushwaha, and two other accused, Akash and Vishal. One other suspect remains at large.

Vipin Raghuvanshi’s Claim

Raja’s elder brother, Vipin Raghuvanshi, has made a shocking revelation. He claimed that Sonam had a pre-existing affair with Raj Kushwaha, and her mother, Sangeeta Raghuvanshi, was aware of it. Vipin stated:

“If Sonam’s father, Devi Singh, had known about the affair, he would have immediately fired Raj Kushwaha. But Sangeeta hid this fact. More than five people may be involved in this murder case.”

Vipin also questioned how Sonam suddenly appeared in Ghazipur on the night of June 8-9. He alleged that it was a well-planned act to portray herself as innocent.

Sonam’s Appearance in Ghazipur

On the night of June 8-9, Sonam was found at a dhaba in Ghazipur, Uttar Pradesh. She borrowed a phone from the dhaba owner, Sahil Yadav, to make a video call to her brother Govind and share her location. The Ghazipur Police took her into custody, and the Meghalaya Police obtained a 72-hour transit remand after presenting her before a magistrate. Sonam is now being brought to Shillong via Patna for intensive interrogation.

Vipin claimed that Sonam’s appearance in Ghazipur was not a coincidence. The investigation revealed that she reached Ghazipur by bus with two other individuals, despite her claim that unknown people dropped her there. Vipin said:

“Sonam’s appearance in Ghazipur was a staged act. The dhaba where she was found is not far from Raj Kushwaha’s house.”

Sister-in-Law Varsha’s Statement

Raja’s sister-in-law, Varsha Raghuvanshi, revealed that Sonam stayed at their home for only four days after the marriage. She said:

“Sonam behaved normally with us. We even went shopping together before the wedding. But we had no idea she was plotting such a conspiracy. The entire Meghalaya trip was her plan. She booked the tickets and informed Raja only two days in advance.”

Varsha’s statement confirms that Sonam planned the honeymoon to lure Raja to Shillong. The police suspect Sonam was in constant contact with her alleged lover and hired killers.

Sonam’s Mother’s Controversial Statement

After Sonam was found in Ghazipur, her mother, Sangeeta Raghuvanshi, told the media that her daughter’s marriage was arranged and that Sonam liked Raja. However, one of her statements sparked controversy:

“It would have been better if Sonam had died. There’s no need for a CBI investigation now.”

This statement has deepened suspicions about Sangeeta. Many are questioning whether she knew about Sonam’s alleged affair and the murder plot. Vipin has demanded that Sangeeta be interrogated.

Demand for CBI Investigation Intensifies

Raja’s family is demanding a CBI investigation into the case. Vipin stated that while they trust the Meghalaya Police, the complexity of the case necessitates a fair CBI probe. Madhya Pradesh Chief Minister Mohan Yadav has also appealed to Union Home Minister Amit Shah for a CBI investigation.

Meanwhile, Sonam’s father, Devi Singh, claims his daughter is innocent, alleging that the Meghalaya Police have fabricated a false narrative to frame her. He, too, has demanded a CBI investigation.

Police Investigation

The Meghalaya Police have arrested four accused—Sonam Raghuvanshi, Raj Kushwaha, Akash, and Vishal. According to the police, Sonam conspired with her alleged lover, Raj Kushwaha, to carry out the murder. A local tourist guide, Albert P.D., provided crucial leads, stating that he saw Raja and Sonam with three other individuals who were speaking in Hindi.

Based on Call Detail Records (CDR) and CCTV footage, the police traced Raj Kushwaha. Footage showed Sonam chatting on her mobile outside a Shillong hotel on May 22, raising suspicions that she was sharing the location with the killers.

Timeline of the Murder

According to the police, Sonam took Raja to a secluded area in Cherrapunji to execute the murder plot. Three hired killers—Akash, Vishal, and Anand—attacked Raja with a sharp weapon and dumped his body in a gorge. After the murder, Sonam and the other accused fled to Shillong, then Guwahati, before dispersing in different directions.

Sonam surrendered in Ghazipur, which the police believe was a move made under pressure, as she had no other escape route after the arrests of the other accused.

What’s Next?

The Meghalaya Police are now intensively interrogating Sonam and the other accused. The investigation is focused on determining whether Sonam’s mother or other family members were involved in the conspiracy. A search operation is underway in Madhya Pradesh and Uttar Pradesh to apprehend the fugitive accused.

This murder case has become a topic of discussion not only in Indore but across the country. People are trying to understand how a newlywed could orchestrate such a brutal conspiracy. Was it merely a love triangle, or was there another motive? The answers to these questions will only emerge after the investigation concludes.
