Russian drone attack in Ukraine: A fire broke out at a warehouse complex in the Ukrainian city of Yahotyn after a Russian drone attack. The incident has come at a time when Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy has said that the United States is working toward ending the Russia–Ukraine war by June.
According to Zelenskyy, the United States has for the first time suggested that Ukrainian and Russian negotiating teams meet face to face in the US next week. Miami has been mentioned as a possible location. Ukraine has confirmed its participation. However, there has been no official response to the proposal so far from Washington or Moscow.
Zelenskyy shared this information after the second round of US-mediated peace talks held in Abu Dhabi. The round ended on Friday, but no concrete outcome was announced. The Ukrainian president said that “difficult issues remain difficult,” including questions related to territorial concessions.
He also said that for the first time, the possibility of a trilateral meeting at the leaders’ level was discussed, though many aspects related to preparations still need to be worked out. When asked about the timeline for a deal, Zelenskyy said the American side wants to push the process forward by June. According to him, domestic political conditions in the US—including the November midterm elections—could affect this timeline.
Attacks on energy infrastructure intensify
Amid diplomatic efforts, Russia has continued attacks on Ukraine’s energy infrastructure. Ukraine’s energy minister said that electricity substations, transmission lines, and power plants were targeted, severely affecting power supply in several areas. According to the state-owned energy company, electricity shortages have increased significantly after the attacks, and emergency power supply has been requested from neighboring Poland.
Zelenskyy said that in attacks carried out on Friday night, more than 400 drones and 40 missiles were launched. Air defense systems intercepted most of them, but some strikes were successful. Damage has been confirmed in at least four regions. In the western Lviv region, a major power plant was hit, leaving thousands of people without electricity, while energy facilities were also damaged in the Ivano-Frankivsk region.
According to energy company DTEK, this is the tenth major attack on its power plants since October 2025, and more than 220 such attacks have taken place since the war began.
Civilian casualties and crisis in the cold

One person has been reported killed in the Rivne region, while several people were injured in Zaporizhzhia. In the capital Kyiv, people have again been forced to take shelter in metro stations. Local residents say that continuous attacks and the lack of electricity and heating have made conditions extremely difficult.
Meanwhile, emergency services have brought the fire under control at the warehouse in Yahotyn after the drone attack, but an assessment of the damage is ongoing.
Ukraine has also claimed retaliatory strikes on some targets inside Russia, including a factory in western Russia and an oil storage facility in the southern region. Russia has not commented on these claims.
Zelenskyy said Russia is using winter as a weapon and that this must be stopped. According to him, nearly 55,000 Ukrainian soldiers have been killed since the war began in February 2022.
