UIDAI to Launch e-Aadhaar App with Face ID & AI

The Unique Identification Authority of India (UIDAI) is preparing for a major digital transformation for citizens. By the end of 2025, UIDAI will launch a new e-Aadhaar mobile app, aimed at making Aadhaar services more convenient, secure, and accessible. The biggest highlight of this app is that people will now be able to update crucial details like name, address, date of birth, and mobile number directly from their phones. This means the hassle of repeated visits to Aadhaar centres and standing in long queues will soon be over.
Aadhaar updates from home
The purpose of the e-Aadhaar app is to provide every citizen with the option of making changes related to their digital identity from home. At present, even minor updates such as correcting a mobile number or address require a visit to an Aadhaar centre. But with this new app, the process will shift completely online. UIDAI has clarified that only biometric updates (fingerprint and iris scans) will still require a centre visit, while all other details can be updated easily through the app. This new system will come into effect from November 2025.
A boost for Digital India
Under the Digital India mission, the central government has been steadily shifting services to online platforms. The e-Aadhaar app is another significant step in that direction, strengthening and expanding the identity system. Officials believe this app will be especially beneficial for people in rural and remote areas, who often face difficulties travelling to Aadhaar centres for minor updates.
Security through AI and Face ID
UIDAI has stated that the app has been designed with advanced security as its top priority. It will make use of Artificial Intelligence (AI) and Face ID technology. This ensures that only the genuine user will be able to carry out Aadhaar updates. The technology will not only eliminate risks of fraud but also speed up the entire process.
With Face ID verification, users will be able to confirm their identity directly on their phones. The process will work similarly to banking and payment apps, where authentication is completed instantly with a single glance.
No more document hassles
Until now, changing information in Aadhaar required uploading or submitting multiple documents. The e-Aadhaar app will ease this burden by allowing users to link documents from government-verified sources. This means that if a person has a PAN card, passport, birth certificate, driving licence, ration card, or MGNREGA records, these can be directly connected to Aadhaar through the app. This will end the need to repeatedly collect and upload physical documents.
QR code-based verification
UIDAI has also introduced a new QR code-based verification system. This will work as seamlessly and reliably as UPI payments. Any organisation or individual will be able to scan the QR code to verify a person’s digital identity. Experts believe this method will not only be convenient but also reduce the risks associated with sharing Aadhaar numbers.
Key benefits for citizens
The launch of this new app will bring multiple advantages for the general public:
- Time and effort saved: No more standing in queues for small corrections.
- Enhanced security: Advanced technology such as AI and Face ID will make identity safer.
- Faster and easier service: Entire processes can be completed on a mobile phone.
- Access for rural areas: People living far from Aadhaar centres will benefit the most.
Low cost, greater control
UIDAI has also made it clear that most updates through the app will either be free or come at a very nominal cost. However, biometric updates will still require a visit to a service centre. Most importantly, the app will give users full control over when, where, and how their data is used. The primary aim is to strengthen user privacy.
The future of Aadhaar services
Experts believe the new e-Aadhaar app will not only make Aadhaar more useful but also empower India’s digital ecosystem.
At a time when the country is rapidly advancing in digital payments, digital education, and digital health missions, this simple and secure digital identity service will make access to these facilities even easier for citizens.
UIDAI’s vision
UIDAI’s goal is to ensure that every citizen in the future has a secure digital identity with dignity. Officials believe that making Aadhaar services simpler will increase public trust and allow government schemes to reach every section of society.
Conclusion
The e-Aadhaar app is not just a technical upgrade but a historic step forward in India’s digital journey. It will bring Aadhaar services directly to households, save people’s time and money, and make the identity system fully secure. Set to roll out in November 2025, this new chapter highlights how rapidly India is advancing in digital services.
UIDAI’s move demonstrates that in the coming years, government services will become even more seamless, secure, and digital for citizens.
