Blinken’s plan also includes meeting Israeli Defense Minister Yoav Galant and President Isaac Herzog. This visit and talks can be important steps towards ensuring that stability and peace can be established in the region.
US Secretary of State visit to Israel: US Secretary of State Antony Blinken arrived in Israel late Sunday night, where he aims to speed up the ongoing talks to resolve the Israel-Hamas conflict. He is scheduled to meet Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu in Jerusalem at 1.30 pm on Monday. In this meeting, important talks will be held between Israel and Hamas regarding a possible ceasefire and the release of hostages.
This visit of Blinken holds special significance, as he has visited the Middle East for the ninth time since the conflict between Israel and Hamas began in Gaza. Earlier, ceasefire talks were held between representatives of Israel, the US, Qatar and Egypt in Doha, the capital of Qatar, on August 15 and 16, although Hamas was not involved in the talks. US President Joe Biden claimed after the talks that there was a possibility of getting very close to a ceasefire deal.
The second phase of the ceasefire deal is scheduled to be held in Egypt this week, for which the Israeli delegation left for Egypt on Sunday evening. Before Blinken arrived in Tel Aviv, Israeli PM Netanyahu addressed a cabinet meeting, saying that Israel could be flexible in some areas, which could be helpful in possible agreements.
