30 thousand ‘Surya Mitras’ will be deployed to illuminate Uttar Pradesh with solar energy, while the Center aims to install 1 crore solar rooftops in the country.
A new era of solar energy in Uttar Pradesh: With 30 thousand ‘Surya Mitras’ training, Center targets 1 crore solar rooftops
Training of 30 thousand youth and target of 1 crore solar rooftops: The Uttar Pradesh government is committed to rapidly implementing Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s vision of “Solar Panel in every house”. Under the PM Surya Ghar Yojana, youth are being trained as Surya Mitras. Under this scheme, a target has been set for 30 thousand youth in Uttar Pradesh to become Surya Mitras, and so far 3 thousand youth have been successfully trained. By training Surya Mitras under the National Solar Energy Mission, the availability of skilled artisans in the solar energy sector will be ensured, which will not only increase employment opportunities in the energy sector but will also take an important step towards solar energy.
Solar Energy Initiatives of Uttar Pradesh
Uttar Pradesh: The Central Government launched the PM Surya Ghar Yojana on 15 February 2024, with the main objective of installing 1 crore solar rooftops across the country. To achieve this important target, the Uttar Pradesh government has resolved to install 25 lakh solar rooftops in the state.
At present, more than 18 lakh houses in the state have been registered for solar rooftops, and applications have also been submitted for about 2 lakh houses. Apart from this, the process of installing solar rooftops in more than 10 thousand houses has been completed.
To encourage the use of solar energy, the state government has implemented the ‘net billing / net metering’ system. Along with this, UPNEDA has received the support of Tata Group, under which the project to install solar rooftops in 10 lakh houses in the state has started from Varanasi. This initiative is an important step in the field of solar energy and an important effort towards making Uttar Pradesh a leader in the field of solar energy.
UPNEDA’s big step: Plan to train 30 thousand Surya Mitras
UPNEDA’s big step: In view of the large-scale expansion of solar rooftop projects, the need for trained youth is increasing rapidly. In this direction, the Uttar Pradesh New Construction and Energy Development Agency (UPNEDA) has set an ambitious target of training 30 thousand Surya Mitras. For this, training centres across the state and ITI institutes of the districts will be used. Currently, 3 thousand Surya Mitras have been provided training under this initiative. This step will not only increase employment opportunities but will also prepare skilled manpower in the solar energy sector.
Employment in Solar Energy Sector: Surya Mitra Training Program
Employment in the Solar Energy Sector: The government aims to prepare skilled and employable manpower, called Surya Mitra, to meet the growing needs of the solar energy industry. A special three-month training program is organized to become a Surya Mitra. The training includes classroom education, laboratory experiments, observation of the SPV plant, in-service training, soft skills and entrepreneurship skills. In total, the training takes 600 hours.
The minimum qualification required to join this program is 10th standard pass and ITI diploma in relevant fields such as electrician, wireman, electronic mechanic, fitter, or sheet metal. After completing the training, trainees are also provided assistance in getting employment, so that they can start a successful career in the solar energy sector.
