India’s electric vehicle (EV) market is evolving rapidly, and now a new contender is all set to enter the scene—VinFast VF7. The Vietnamese electric vehicle manufacturer VinFast is preparing to launch its first SUV in India, with the VinFast VF7 spotted recently during testing on Mumbai roads. This strongly suggests that the VinFast VF7 India launch is scheduled for the festive season of 2025, likely in October or November. With its blend of style, technology, and practical design tailored for Indian roads and customers, the VF7 aims to make a notable mark. In this article, we delve into the details of the VinFast VF7 India launch, including its features, price, battery specs, range, and expected impact on the Indian EV market.

VinFast VF7 EV Overview

The buzz around the VinFast VF7 India launch started when it was seen being transported on a flatbed truck in Mumbai. It had earlier been showcased at the Bharat Mobility Global Expo 2025, where it turned heads with its premium design and modern features. As the launch date approaches, excitement among Indian EV enthusiasts is steadily growing.

The VF7 spotted in Mumbai was finished in Jet Black, enhancing its sleek and modern appearance. According to VinFast’s official website, the SUV will be offered in four colours—Brahminy White, Crimson Red, Neptune Grey, and Jet Black. At Auto Expo 2025, the VF7 was displayed with 20-inch alloy wheels and Goodyear Eagle F1 tyres. However, the India-spec version is expected to come with 19-inch newly designed alloy wheels and 245/50 R19 Apollo Aspire tyres, better suited to India’s rough road conditions for a more comfortable and durable ride.

VinFast VF7 Features: A Premium Tech-Loaded Offering

The standout element of the VinFast VF7 India launch lies in its advanced features, making it a strong contender in the mid-size electric SUV segment. Spy shots from testing reveal several key highlights:

  • Advanced Driver Assistance Systems (ADAS): The VF7 will feature a camera-based Level 2+ ADAS suite, including lane keep assist, adaptive cruise control, blind spot monitoring, and automatic emergency braking, enhancing both safety and convenience.
  • 360-Degree Surround View Camera: Cameras mounted on the wing mirrors indicate the presence of a 360-degree camera system, aiding in tight parking situations.
  • Large Touchscreen Infotainment System: The dashboard houses a large touchscreen display, likely 12.9-inch or 15-inch, with support for Android Auto, Apple CarPlay, and over-the-air (OTA) updates.
  • Premium Interiors: Expect ventilated and heated front seats, panoramic sunroof, heads-up display, and wireless charging.
  • Safety Features: Multiple airbags, ABS with EBD, reverse parking sensors, tyre pressure monitoring system (TPMS), and hill-hold assist will add to its safety credentials.

These features position the VinFast VF7 India launch as an appealing option for buyers seeking a premium, tech-rich electric vehicle.

VinFast VF7 Battery & Performance:

VinFast VF7 will be launched in India with two variants—Eco and Plus. Both will feature a 75.3kWh battery, with differences in motor setup and performance. Here are the specifications:

VariantMotor SetupPowerTorqueWLTP Range
EcoSingle Motor (FWD)204hp310Nm450km
PlusDual Motor (AWD)354hp500Nm431km
  • Eco Variant: Equipped with a front-wheel drive single motor setup, this variant offers a 450km WLTP range, ideal for long-distance travel.
  • Plus Variant: Comes with a dual-motor all-wheel-drive setup, delivering more power with a slightly lower range of 431km—perfect for sporty driving preferences.

Based on ARAI testing standards, the range could be 10-15% higher than the WLTP figures—around 480-500km for Eco and 460-470km for Plus, making the VF7 competitively ranged in India.

The VF7 will support 150kW DC fast charging, enabling a 10% to 80% charge in under 30 minutes. With an 11kW AC charger, a full charge will take approximately 6-7 hours.

VinFast VF7 Price and Competition in India

The VinFast VF7 India launch is expected to be priced between ₹20 lakh and ₹30 lakh (ex-showroom). This puts it in direct competition with models like the BYD Atto 3 (₹24.99–₹33.99 lakh), Hyundai Creta EV, Tata Curvv, and Mahindra BE 6. While the Atto 3 offers higher battery capacities (49.92kWh and 60.48kWh) with ARAI ranges of 468km and 521km respectively, the VF7 may offer slightly lower range but wins in terms of features and value.

The VF7 will be assembled in VinFast’s new plant in Thoothukudi, Tamil Nadu, which will help keep prices competitive due to tax benefits. Moreover, VinFast’s innovative battery leasing scheme could further reduce the upfront cost.

VinFast Battery Leasing Scheme:

One of the most unique aspects of the VinFast VF7 India launch could be its battery leasing model. Inspired by MG Motor India’s Battery-as-a-Service (BaaS) plan, this scheme allows customers to pay a lower upfront cost for the vehicle while leasing the battery on a monthly basis. This could potentially lower the on-road price by ₹15–20 lakh, making the VF7 far more accessible in the mid-size SUV segment.

VinFast is also expected to offer a 10-year battery warranty and a buy-back program. These initiatives will reduce concerns around battery lifespan and maintenance—factors that often influence EV purchase decisions in India.

VinFast Investment in Tamil Nadu:

To solidify its presence in India, VinFast has established a state-of-the-art manufacturing plant in Thoothukudi, Tamil Nadu. Construction began in February 2024, with operations expected to start by July 2025. The initial production capacity will be 50,000 units annually, with plans to scale up to 150,000 units per year.

VinFast has invested USD 500 million (approx. ₹4,150 crore) in this project so far, with a total investment plan of up to USD 2 billion. The facility will generate employment for around 3,500 people and aims to localise 30-40% of battery and cell production, further reducing costs.

In addition to the VF7, the plant will also produce models like the VF6 and VF3, which will be exported to markets in South Asia, the Middle East, and Africa.

VinFast VF7 Rivals and Market Strategy

The VinFast VF7 will compete directly with the BYD Atto 3, Hyundai Creta EV, Tata Curvv, and Mahindra BE 6. While BYD has strong brand equity and range, VinFast’s local manufacturing, battery leasing model, and rich features may offer it a pricing and value edge.

VinFast’s top-down strategy will see it introduce premium models like the VF7 first, followed by more affordable options like the VF6 (compact SUV with 59.6kWh battery and 399km WLTP range) and VF3 (micro SUV, expected around ₹10 lakh). This approach targets India’s diverse EV market.

The company is also setting up dealerships in metro and Tier-1 cities to cover 70% of the EV market. Alongside this, VinFast is partnering with its group companies to build a robust charging infrastructure across India, accelerating EV adoption.
