Visakhapatnam: From September 1, 2024, a new traffic rule has come into force for pillion riders on bikes and scooters in Visakhapatnam. Under the Motor Vehicle Act, it will now be mandatory for all pillion riders on two-wheelers to wear helmets. Violating this order issued by the High Court, a challan of Rs 1035 will be deducted and the license of the violator can also be suspended for 3 months.
This step of the government has been taken to control road accidents, as helmets are still not used properly by people in many parts of India. Under this new rule implemented in Visakhapatnam, the mandatory wearing of helmets will promote road safety and reduce accidents.
Police Commissioner Shankhabrata Bagchi and District Collector Harendheera Prasad recently held a meeting in this regard, in which they said that people can face trouble if they do not follow the rules. The purpose of this rule is to ensure road safety and also help keep citizens safe on the roads.
With this rule coming into effect, all bike and scooter drivers and their pillion riders must use good-quality helmets. To avoid head injuries in road accidents, one should avoid fake and cheap helmets and choose a helmet that meets the safety standards. A good helmet is available for around Rs 1000, which is capable of protecting from serious injuries from accidents.
By adopting this new rule and wearing a helmet, we can all stay safe on the road and prevent accidents.
