BYD introduces new battery and charging technology, 470 km range in 5 minutes!
China’s leading automobile company BYD has introduced a new battery and charging technology for electric vehicles (EVs), which signals a revolutionary change. This new technology is capable of providing a range of up to 470 kilometers in just 5 minutes. This technology has been tested on the BYD Han L sedan, and the company has announced that it will be introduced in the market in April 2025. This move can add a new chapter to the charging speed of electric vehicles, making the use of EVs even more accessible and attractive.
Charging speed like petrol car: BYD’s new technology will bring a big change
BYD says that with this new charging technology, EVs will be charged as fast as it takes to refuel a petrol or diesel car. Nowadays, there is a problem of time in charging electric vehicles, and this is why many customers still prefer petrol and diesel vehicles. BYD’s new battery and charging technology claims to solve this challenge, as now customers will be able to charge their EV quickly and will not have to wait long.
Tesla and Mercedes will get tough competition
BYD’s new charging system can create a stir in the electric vehicle market. Currently, Tesla’s Supercharger system gives a range of 275 km in 15 minutes, while Mercedes-Benz’s CLA electric sedan offers a range of 325 km in 10 minutes. BYD claims that their new technology will provide a range of 470 km in just 5 minutes. If this technology works properly, it can completely change the charging experience of electric vehicles, giving tough competition to Tesla and Mercedes.
Speed โโof 100 km / h in 2 seconds
BYD Chairman Wang Chuanfu told about this new technology that their new EV platform will enable cars to reach a speed of 100 km / h in just 2 seconds. This feature will be available exclusively in the BYD Han L sedan and Tang L SUV, priced at 2.7 lakh yuan (approximately Rs 32.36 lakh) and 2.8 lakh yuan (approximately Rs 33.56 lakh) respectively.
BYD’s 4000 charging station network
BYD plans to set up a huge network for this new charging technology. The company has announced that it will set up more than 4000 charging stations, providing better-charging facilities to electric vehicle users. Apart from this, this move will also strengthen the electric vehicle charging infrastructure, which will make it easier to use EVs and attract more people to electric vehicles.
Historic growth in BYD sales
BYD’s sales have seen tremendous growth in recent times. In January 2025, the company sold more than 318,000 vehicles, up 161% over last year. With this, the company’s market share has now reached close to 15% in China, making BYD the largest carmaker in the country. Apart from this, the company is also rapidly strengthening its position in India, where it is launching several new electric models.
BYD Electric Vehicles in India
Four major electric models of BYD are already available in India: Atto 3, Seal, e6 and Sealion 7. The Atto 3 is a premium electric SUV, the Seal is a high-performance electric sedan, and the e6 is an electric MPV specifically designed for fleet and commercial use. The Sealion 7 electric SUV has been launched recently, which is available in two variants Premium RWD and Performance AWD. It is priced from Rs 48.90 lakh to Rs 54.90 lakh (ex-showroom). BYD is planning to bring new models to further strengthen its position in the Indian electric vehicle market.
This new battery and charging technology from BYD will not only revolutionize vehicle charging times but will also improve the usability of electric vehicles. If this technology works as expected, it could prove to be a milestone in the future of electric vehicles.
