US Secretary of State: Israel agrees to ceasefire in Gaza

Antony Blinken, Benjamin Netanyahu

US Secretary of State: US Secretary of State Antony Blinken made an important statement during his visit to Israel on Monday, in which he said that Israel has accepted the proposal related to a ceasefire in Gaza and the release of hostages. The statement came after Blinken’s two-and-a-half-hour meeting with Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu. Blinken also mentioned that Hamas’ support of this proposal would also be important.

Blinken told reporters after the meeting that Netanyahu supported the proposal, which is a positive sign for regional peace and stability. However, he did not clarify whether Israel had taken into account the concerns raised by the extremist group.

The US, Egypt and Qatar have tried for several months to reach a ceasefire in Gaza, but the talks have repeatedly hit deadlocks. Blinken said he is expected to travel to Egypt on Tuesday to try to move the settlement process forward.

Meanwhile, Hamas has not clarified its position on the proposal and said negotiations have not yet begun. This raises the question of whether Israel’s demands have been met, particularly Israel’s demand for control over two strategic corridors inside Gaza.
